My Personal Story: When I Stopped Guessing and Started Learning What My Body Needed

For a long time, I knew something felt off in my body, but I could not fully explain it.
Like many women, after having a baby, I found myself struggling with weight gain that did not seem to respond to the usual efforts. I tried to be mindful. I tried to eat better. I tried to do what I thought should work. But despite my efforts, the weight would not budge in the way I hoped. It was frustrating, discouraging, and honestly confusing.
What made it harder was that this was not just about weight. I also dealt with brain fog for years. At times, I wondered whether I had ADHD because it often felt difficult to focus, organize my thoughts, or feel mentally clear. I just knew I did not feel like myself.
Everything started to shift when I began learning more through functional testing.
During my training, I had the opportunity to run testing on myself, and that experience changed the way I looked at my health. One of the most eye-opening pieces was learning my Metabolic Type®. That information gave me a new lens for understanding how my body responded to food. It was no longer just about “eating healthy” in a generic way. It was about learning what was more supportive for my body.
That insight led me to make one important change: I went gluten free.
What happened next surprised me. In about two months, I lost 40 pounds. Just as meaningful, the brain fog I had carried for so long began to clear. Later, after learning more through Mediator Release Test (MRT)-based food sensitivity testing, I made additional changes to reduce foods that appeared to be contributing to inflammation.
That gave me even more insight into how food was affecting the way I felt day to day.
What I appreciate most about this journey is that it reminded me how easy it is to normalize feeling unwell when we do not yet have the right information. Sometimes what we call lack of discipline, lack of motivation, or even a personality issue may actually be connected to stress, inflammation, food responses, or deeper patterns in the body that deserve more attention.
That experience is one of the reasons I am so passionate about helping others explore wellness in a more personalized way. Not because there is one magic answer for everyone, but because many people are working very hard without truly knowing what their body may need.
If you have ever felt like you were doing “all the right things” and still not getting the clarity or progress you want, you are not alone. Sometimes the next step is not trying harder. Sometimes it is learning more.
